Preserving Our History

Founded in 1987, Friends of Historic Jekyll Island (FOHJI) is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of Jekyll Island, its natural and historic heritage.

In its early years, members were heavily involved in “hands on” work in the Historic District.  In recent years the emphasis has shifted to financial support of preservation projects undertaken by the Jekyll Island Authority and to sponsoring educational programs and initiatives. Funds for projects are generated through membership dues, bequests, and fundraising events (particularly the Annual Dinner at the Club and the Annual Auction).

The marker recognizing the Friends of Historic Jekyll Island's contributions to the preservation of Jekyll Island's history is located on Pier Road in the Historic District.
